Modern Cottage Garden
The Client
An active Bishop’s Stortford couple in their early 60s, living in a traditional bungalow, who like to potter in the garden but don’t want to be slaves to it.
The Challenge
to introduce strong structure to the garden, use traditional materials, in keeping with the property & develop a cottage planting theme, but without too much maintenance.
The Solution
Circular geometry was chosen to bring the structure – the circle being a strong, static shape introduces a relaxed feel to the space.
Red brick & light-coloured sandstone paving were favoured materials used to create new circular dining & breakfasting patios, connected by a serpentine path.
A circular synthetic grass lawn brings the low maintenance element & connects, via stepping stones, through diaphanous planting to a tranquil second lawn, where quiet seclusion (for yoga) is the order of the day.
