Small Garden – Big View

The Client

A recently retired couple who downsized into a cosy modern house near Ware in Herts.  The property enjoys a panoramic view over the open countryside of Hertfordshire.

The Challenge 

​

The brief was to modernise & bring some life to the dull garden, introduce some structure & height, but at the same time maintain the wonderful view.
 

The Solution

​

Reducing the expanse of dark paving & replacing the odd shaped lawn with a light coloured shingle & planting lifts the space & makes it seem bigger.

The new Millboard deck & glass balustrade offers an excellent vantage point to view the countryside beyond & provides a great place to entertain & relax.

 

The introduction of some strong geometry brings a comfortable contrast with the natural setting beyond & in line with the brief introduces a more contemporary feel to the garden.
