Design Process

Our simple design process allows us to work collaboratively with you to realise your garden hopes and dreams

Initial visit, Quotation, Design Brief and Site Survey

Quercus Garden Design will arrange an initial visit to discuss your garden, the services we offer and show examples of our work. The service required will be established from this visit & a quotation will be emailed out, along with some useful links – to help you start to develop your ideas for the garden.

If the Garden Design Service is chosen Quercus will develop a Design Brief to work to, using a detailed Q&A process.  This means we fully understand what you want from your garden.

The next stage is to survey the garden.  Quercus will take accurate measurements, record ground levels and highlight existing features that may need to be enhanced or hidden as necessary for the subsequent preparation of the scale garden design drawings.

Design Draft, Changes and Layout Plan

The first client feedback stage will include a Draft Plan & maybe supporting visuals to help you envisage the finished garden  -  this will allow us to present our ideas & talk through any changes you may wish to make as well as being a blueprint for further detailed garden design work.

Minor changes to the plan can be agreed at this Design Draft stage.  In the unlikely event of major changes, or if there are unforeseen circumstances for which we could not plan, then we will charge our usual garden design rate of £35 / hour for amendments.

The final stage is to complete the Layout Plan.  This incorporates any agreed amendments and is the scale drawing from which a landscape contractor will be able to estimate, set out and build the garden.

Building, Planting, and Maintaining the garden

Quercus is able to recommend respected local landscaping contractors working in Hertfordshire & Essex, with whom we have worked well in the past & who would be happy to quote for building your garden.

Quercus Garden Design is happy to act as your agent during the invitation to tender stage & tender evaluation process.  We can provide a quote for this service if required. Alternatively, we would be happy to discuss project phasing if you favour a DIY build.

With the hard landscaping underway it's time to consider the planting – the element that will really bring your garden to life.  Quercus can plan your planting scheme and is then able to source, supply & set out all the plants in your garden & organise the planting.  Ask Quercus about a quote for whatever level of planting assistance you need.

We can also prepare easy-to-understand maintenance guidelines to ease you gently into caring for your new garden.
